The
Local Area
The cottages are located
on the edge of the village of Cussay. In the 16th Century the cottages
were the centre of the hamlet of La Bosniere, and the bread for the
hamlet was made in what is now the smaller of our cottages - L'Ecurie.
Cussay is approximately 1km from La Bosniere. The main shops are La Poste - The local Post Office, a bakery and the Auberge Du Pont Neuf, a hotel and restaurant.
The main locations for local shopping are Ligueil, which is less than 5 minutes drive away, Descartes (10 minutes drive) and Loches, which is also conveniently located, only around 15 minutes drive.
Loches - This charming town features the Castle, Dungeons and Royal residence and has many medieval streets. There are a wide variety of shops for food, clothing and a number of good restaurants. Located near Loches is the industrial estate of Perusson, where there is a large E.LeClerc hypermarket.
Descartes - A small town that has
many useful shops and the Museum dedicated to the famous philosopher of
the same name. On the outskirts of the town are the Intermarche
and Super U supermarkets,
which allow out of town shopping. The weekly market held on a Sunday
morning is very good.
Ligueil - A very short drive from La Bosniere, this town has an Atac supermarket, two excellent bakeries and various other useful shops. Parking is located in the town centre, and the local tourist office is opposite the car park. There is also a Medical centre, a sports complex, and a garage.
St Maure de Touraine - Well known throughout France for its goat's cheese this town is near the A10 motorway and is clustered around the main market place. It has an interesting indoor market and the main market day is Friday. Parking is not quite as good as other local towns. There is a winery in the town centre (with its own car park) where local wines can be tasted and bought.
